The Hoop Horse – Basketball Net For The Kids

hoop_horse_netting

Our little boy has shown an interest in basketball, which is great, but Fernie doesn’t have a sports store and I couldn’t find a basketball net anywhere, especially one for toddlers. We needed to create one ourselves. It’s a good thing we found basketball netting at Canadian Tire, at least, so that made it a little quicker to put together. Rod found scraps of wood around the house to create a net that is adjustable as they grow and he also found a wheel rim in a trash bin for the net. We thought about putting the net alone on a fence post but we also liked the idea of it being portable. Then we saw the sawhorse. It all came together so well. I’m sure one day this backboard will have a horse head painted on it but that might be a rainy day activity and we haven’t had a rainy day in a while.

In Progress : Wood Circles Become Wall Hooks

wood circles - wall hooks - red and white

Not bad! Thanks to Rod for the of the bolt suggestion because this is not what I was initially thinking. I think these Painted Wood Wall Hooks will look great in my little girl’s room after I put some sort of sealer on it.

I decided to make a series of three red and white wall hooks and two that are bright and colourful. I’d love to just keep adding to both of these groups but there is limited supply of this particular wood scrap. Instead of making the wood knobs, which would magically turn them into wall hooks, Rod suggested using bolts and I’m warming up to the idea. He used bolts back in the day when he made a cedar key hook for our home.

It’s Too Sunny To Be Completely Indoors

sunny shop - mild january weather in fernie bc

The sun is shinning and it’s warm in Fernie. Time to get away from the basement /dungeon and get into the shop. At least I can open the door to the shop and get some fresh air, in between bouts of sanding. The weather has been unreal and I am not complaining.

It’s nice to smell fresh cut wood again. So far, I have these wood circles that I need to make a plan for (i’m thinking of turning them into decorative and rustic wall hooks) and I’m also making a little seat for my kids to sit on while I put their shoes on or, hopefully soon, a place they can put their own shoes on.

In Progress : Toy Wooden Cars and a Boat

toy cars and boat for play table

After playing with my little boy at the play table this morning I decided I wanted to try and make a couple Wooden Cars and a Boat (to go in the river). I also needed to make people to drive the cars and boat…of course…so the little dowel sticks will be people and the rest should be self explanatory. Can’t wait to see how these look in the end!

Small Wooden Easels – Done!

Yesterday I put my head down and made these four Small Wooden Easels happen. I wanted to try different styles but I ended up doing two, the two on the right side, similarly. I made them because I wanted to print my Instagram photos (on 4×6 photo paper, cut down to square) instead of just leaving them on my computer never to be seen again. I hate that. And I hate those digital photo frames just as much.

There are a few different things on the go in the shop right now. I’m working on a couple Small Photo Easels and a Small Plant Table that will go on our living room shelf. I just need to find a plate to go on top or make my own. The little houses…I don’t know. Maybe they’ll end up at the play table. So far I’m just playing around – seeing what works and what doesn’t.

Outdoor Wood Planter Turned Indoor Bedroom Book Shelf

I put this scrap wood planter together in the spring and then I never used it. I saw it today and decided it’s now going to be a book shelf. She has so many books that need a home (not on the floor or in a pile on her dresser) and I thought this could do the trick. Now I’m not one to paint princesses or fairies so I hope abstract mountains are okay for her. I like how they look weaved (woven?).
